Review NOBLET Paris Case Oboe

The Noblet Oboe is a masterpiece of oboe craftsmanship, designed to provide musicians with an exceptional playing experience. This oboe, named after the French oboist Jean-Jacques Noblet, boasts a rich history and a timeless beauty that is reflected in its meticulous construction.

The Noblet Oboe features a hand-carved, African blackwood body, which is renowned for its superior tone quality and durability. The wood is carefully shaped and finished to create a smooth, comfortable fit for the player's lips, ensuring a stable and consistent pitch. The keywork is made of silver-plated brass, providing a responsive and precise action. The oboe's mechanism is finely tuned to ensure ease of play, with keys that are light and easy to press, even during rapid passages.

The reed for the Noblet Oboe is made of cane, which is carefully selected and crafted by skilled reed makers. The reed's shape, strength, and flexibility are all crucial factors in achieving the desired sound, and the Noblet Oboe's reeds are designed to provide a warm, rich tone with excellent projection.

The Noblet Oboe's tuning is accurate and stable, with a balanced and focused sound that is ideal for both solo and ensemble playing. The oboe's tone is full-bodied and resonant, with a clear and precise attack. The instrument's response is quick and agile, making it easy to navigate complex musical passages with ease and grace.

In conclusion, the Noblet Oboe is a high-quality instrument that is built to last. With its beautiful craftsmanship, responsive mechanics, and rich tone, it is a pleasure to play and a valuable asset to any musician's collection. Whether you are a beginner just starting out or a seasoned professional, the Noblet Oboe is sure to meet your musical needs and exceed your expectations.

Noblet oboes are historical oboes that were popular in the 18th century. They have a unique sound and are often sought after by musicians who enjoy playing early music. Here are some pros and cons of buying a Noblet oboe:

Pros:

1. Unique sound: Noblet oboes have a distinctive, rich, and resonant sound that is different from modern oboes. This sound can be quite appealing to musicians who enjoy playing historical instruments.

2. Authenticity: Playing a Noblet oboe can give musicians a sense of authenticity when performing early music. It can help them better understand the music and the historical context in which it was written.

3. Craftsmanship: Noblet oboes are often handmade by skilled craftsmen, and the craftsmanship can be quite beautiful to behold.

Cons:

1. Cost: Noblet oboes can be quite expensive, especially if they are made by skilled craftsmen or are in good condition.

2. Maintenance: Noblet oboes require more maintenance than modern oboes. They are made of wood, and the reeds are often made of cane, which can be susceptible to changes in humidity and temperature.

3. Tuneability: Noblet oboes can be less tunable than modern oboes, which can make it more challenging to play in tune with other instruments.

Conclusion:

If you are a musician who enjoys playing early music and is willing to invest in a unique and beautiful instrument, a Noblet oboe could be a great choice. However, it is important to consider the cost and maintenance requirements before making a purchase. You may want to try playing a Noblet oboe before making a decision to ensure that it is the right instrument for you.

Recommendation:

If you are interested in buying a Noblet oboe, I would recommend doing your research and trying out several instruments before making a purchase. You may want to speak with other musicians who have experience playing Noblet oboes and ask for their recommendations. Additionally, consider working with a reputable dealer or luthier to ensure that you are getting a high-quality instrument.

Details:

It was regularly cleaned, so the bore is clear and ready to be played. The instrument itself was regularly oiled nut oils, so the body is in a good state.

It has been unused for many years. I have owned it since I was young, so I do not know much about where it came from. While the pads cork is all present, it probably is dry enough that it should be re padded.

A much loved college oboe for sale. The keys have some cloudy patina, green tinted on some bar ends.
