Details:

It comes with its original case which is quite old and worn see photos, but the leather handles have been replaced, and even though the case shows a lot of wear it is still functional and useful. On the oval engraving on the upper barrel section of the clarinet all that is visible to the naked eye is model e bu. And on the bell all that is visible is It is in good shape, and it plays well.

Specific information I have not been able to determine the exact age of this clarinet, but the serial number is B3503, clearly marked on both the upper and lower main sections of the clarinet. Some say it was produced in the 1940s, but some say it might have been earlier, and some say later.

And, according to most of the experts i've found, the Evette and Schaeffer is a different and much better instrument than the Evette, and better than the Evette master model, which is equivalent to a Buffet e12. The stamped or engraved seals on the clarinet say Evette Schaeffer, Paris france, model e Buffet Crampon, serial number B3503 which as explained below means it was probably produced in the late 1930s or 1940s. Ffer and cram.

Offered is a vintage pre r13 Buffet Crampon Evette Schaeffer b flat clarinet made in Paris, made of black Grenadian wood i'm selling it only because i've aged faster than I thought I would and coped has taken away my ability to play well. So despite signs of wear, this clarinet is in remarkably good condition, considering its age, and it plays well and has a rich tone.

There is also a barely noticeable little crack in the upper short barrel section shown in photo. However, the crack is so slight it does not go the entire length of the little barrel, and it doesn go through to the inside so it doesn have any effect on the clarinet operation and won't if iterated with bore oil once in a while, as I have done.

As for quality, in my research I have found conflicting information. Also included are a tube of cork grease and two swabs, one for drying the bore after playing, and the other for applying bore oil. More importantly, it was overhauled and new cork for the joints and new pads for the keys were put on about 2 years ago a 175 investment. Just below the oval is written model e Buffet Crampon.

And I think it is possibly better than that, perhaps even approaching r13 standards. My conclusion, therefore, is that this clarinet is at least equivalent to the Buffet e13, a high end intermediate model.

That information, apparently, is significant in identifying the age and quality of the clarinet. Conventional opinion according to Wikipedia is that the Evette Schaeffer clarinets are equivalent to the later Buffet e13 high end intermediate model. However, he didn't think my clarinet was an irregular r 13 because his belief is that the only clarinets that are irregular r13s have 5 digit serial numbers with no prefix.

One expert states that if the ab key and the side of the a key have their own two posts which this clarinet has, it's an irregular r13.

But then, i'm biased. When I bought it many years ago I at first found I needed to sightly adjust my embouchure when going from the lower to the upper register, but as I got accustomed to the clarinet that was not an issue any more.

It has beautiful nickle keys, and it has the original ligature and metal mouthpiece guard. The two middle sections are in excellent condition except for the cosmetic wear of the label at the top of the upper section, and all the keys are in excellent condition and were cleaned and serviced during the overhaul.

Frankly, i'm no expert and I don't know for sure.
