Pros of buying a fixer-upper Conn oboe with a plastic-resin fixer:

1. Cost-effective: Buying a fixer-upper oboe can be significantly cheaper than buying a brand-new one. This can be a great option for beginners or those on a tight budget.

2. Potential for high-quality sound: With proper repair and maintenance, a fixer-upper oboe can produce a high-quality sound. The Conn brand is known for its excellent craftsmanship, so there's potential for a great instrument.

3. Opportunity to learn repair: Fixing up an oboe can be a great way to learn about the instrument and its mechanics. This can be a valuable skill for any musician.

Cons of buying a fixer-upper Conn oboe with a plastic-resin fixer:

1. Time-consuming: Repairing an oboe can be a lengthy and time-consuming process. It requires patience and dedication to ensure that the instrument is in good working order.

2. Risk of damage: If not repaired properly, there is a risk of damaging the oboe further. This can lead to expensive repairs or even the need to replace the instrument altogether.

3. Limited availability: Finder-upper Conn oboes with plastic-resin fixers may be harder to find than new or pre-owned oboes with more traditional fixers.

Conclusion:

Buying a fixer-upper Conn oboe with a plastic-resin fixer can be a great option for those who are looking for a cost-effective way to own a high-quality instrument. However, it is important to consider the potential drawbacks, such as the time-consuming nature of repair and the risk of damage. If you have the time, patience, and repair skills to fix up the oboe, it can be a rewarding experience. However, if you are unsure about your abilities or if you want a more reliable instrument, it may be worth considering purchasing a new or pre-owned oboe with a more traditional fixer.
